Frequently asked questions
Straight answers about the retired WeDo 2.0 app, RoboGuru for WeDo 2.0, devices, buying and privacy. Each answer starts with the short version.
The official WeDo 2.0 app
What happened to the LEGO WeDo 2.0 app?
LEGO Education retired it. The store listings said the app would remain available until 31 July 2026, and it no longer gets updates or support. Copies already installed may keep working until an operating-system update breaks them.
Do my WeDo 2.0 kits still work?
Yes. The Smarthub, motors and sensors are fine. You just need software that can talk to them, such as RoboGuru for WeDo 2.0 or Scratch 3.
Does the official WeDo 2.0 app still work?
Copies that are already installed usually keep working, but LEGO no longer supports or updates them. Each new iOS, Android, Windows or macOS release can break the app, and a new or reset device cannot get it back once the store listing is gone.
Is it safe to install the old WeDo 2.0 APK?
Be careful. Copies on APK download sites are unverified, they get no updates, and schools usually cannot install them through device management. A maintained app from an official store is the safer choice.
Should I buy SPIKE Essential instead?
That is no longer an option: LEGO stopped selling the whole SPIKE range on 30 June 2026. Its successor, LEGO Education Computer Science & AI, means buying new kits for every group.
Where can I find the WeDo 2.0 lesson plans?
LEGO still hosts the original WeDo 2.0 teacher guides and curriculum as PDFs on the retired-products pages of the LEGO Education website.
About RoboGuru
What is RoboGuru for WeDo 2.0?
An independent app for programming LEGO® WeDo 2.0 models with blocks. It connects to the WeDo 2.0 Smarthub and runs on iPhone & iPad, Android, Web editor, Windows, macOS, and Linux.
Is RoboGuru made by LEGO?
No. RoboGuru for WeDo 2.0 is made by an independent developer and is not affiliated with, sponsored or endorsed by the LEGO Group.
Do I need to buy new LEGO hardware?
No. RoboGuru works with the WeDo 2.0 Smarthub from set 45300 that you already own. LEGO's current classroom line, Computer Science & AI, means buying new kits at $339.95 to $529.95 per kit of four pupils.
Scratch is free. Why pay for RoboGuru?
Scratch is great, and it works with WeDo 2.0. It needs the Scratch Link helper on Windows and Mac computers, and it does not work with WeDo 2.0 on iPads or, officially, on Linux. RoboGuru is one app for all of those devices.
Devices and setup
Which devices does RoboGuru run on?
iPhone & iPad, Android, Web editor, Windows, macOS, and Linux. The Download page lists every platform with its store link or download.
Does RoboGuru work on an iPad?
Yes. RoboGuru runs on iPad and iPhone and installs from the App Store, so it also works on new and reset iPads.
Can I program WeDo 2.0 on Linux?
Yes, with RoboGuru, which runs on Linux. Scratch Link, the helper Scratch needs for WeDo 2.0, has no official Linux version.
My hub won't connect. What should I try?
Fit fresh batteries and close any other app that might be connected to the hub, because only one app can connect at a time. Make sure Bluetooth is switched on and allowed for RoboGuru, then press the hub's green button until the light blinks and choose the hub in the app.
Buying and privacy
How much does RoboGuru cost?
RoboGuru for WeDo 2.0 is a paid app: you pay once in the store you install it from, with no subscription. The Pricing page shows the current price.
What data does RoboGuru collect about children?
Our privacy policy explains what the app and this website collect and why. If your school needs more detail for a data-protection review, contact us.
