RoboGuru vs the official WeDo 2.0 app

RoboGuru for WeDo 2.0 is an independent app that you can still install on iPhone & iPad, Android, Web editor, Windows, macOS, and Linux. LEGO's official WeDo 2.0 app is retired, gets no updates, and its store listings were announced to end on 31 July 2026.

Feature by feature

Both apps work with the WeDo 2.0 Smarthub and use blocks. The difference is that you can still install RoboGuru on today's devices, while the official app only lives on devices where it is already installed.

What the official app had

The official app came with LEGO's own projects, building instructions and a documentation tool. Those are LEGO content, and RoboGuru does not copy them. LEGO's teacher guides are still available as PDFs, and you can follow them with any WeDo 2.0 app.

How to move a classroom to RoboGuru

You can switch in a lesson or two: keep the old app where it still works, install RoboGuru alongside it, label your hubs and test each one.

  1. Keep the old app where it still runs

Don't delete working installs yet. They are useful while you switch, and a reset device cannot get them back.

  2. Install RoboGuru on each device

Use the Download page to get RoboGuru for every platform in your classroom.

  3. Label and name your hubs

Stick a number on each Smarthub so pupils can tell them apart; LEGO recommended the same for the official app.

  4. Connect and test every hub

Fit fresh batteries, switch each hub on and connect it once, so you find flat batteries before the lesson.

  5. Rebuild your favourite projects

Download LEGO's WeDo 2.0 teacher guide PDFs and recreate the programs with RoboGuru's blocks.

Questions about switching

What happened to the LEGO WeDo 2.0 app?

LEGO Education retired it. The store listings said the app would remain available until 31 July 2026, and it no longer gets updates or support. Copies already installed may keep working until an operating-system update breaks them.

Does the official WeDo 2.0 app still work?

Copies that are already installed usually keep working, but LEGO no longer supports or updates them. Each new iOS, Android, Windows or macOS release can break the app, and a new or reset device cannot get it back once the store listing is gone.

Is it safe to install the old WeDo 2.0 APK?

Be careful. Copies on APK download sites are unverified, they get no updates, and schools usually cannot install them through device management. A maintained app from an official store is the safer choice.

Where can I find the WeDo 2.0 lesson plans?

LEGO still hosts the original WeDo 2.0 teacher guides and curriculum as PDFs on the retired-products pages of the LEGO Education website.

Should I buy SPIKE Essential instead?

That is no longer an option: LEGO stopped selling the whole SPIKE range on 30 June 2026. Its successor, LEGO Education Computer Science & AI, means buying new kits for every group.
